NJ high court ices lawsuit on hockey-puck injury

advertisement

The New Jersey state Supreme Court today dismissed a lawsuit filed by a woman injured by a ricocheting puck during the warm-up before a Trenton Titans' hockey game.

The court ruled 4-3 vote that the woman, Denise Sciarrotta, can't sue the franchise or the East Coast Hockey League for damages for the Jan. 3, 2003, incident.

Who's leading the conversation?
This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

Here's an idea for watching hockey, and life in general really: if there's a frozen chunk of rubber flying around at 90 mph, it might be a good idea to keep an eye on it!

i wish more people would just be content with the fact that accidents just happen and sometimes there isn't anyone who deserves to carry the blame.

Despite my light-hearted comment above, and the fact that I completely agree with the NJ state supreme court on this one, I do think the netting they have at end of the NHL rinks now is a good idea. I've watched a game through one and after the first few minutes I didn't notice it at all.
