In the strongest Hockey Hall of Fame field in years, Mark Messier's coronation will probably be unanimous Thursday when the voting takes place in Toronto.
But only four players can join hockey's elite club at any one time, which means a few first-year eligible guys will have their noses pressed up against the glass.
The others have their own constituencies of support, though. How do voters not pick Ron Francis, Scott Stevens, Al MacInnis, Igor Larionov or Adam Oates? Francis is second in the league in career assists and fourth in points and also won two Stanley Cups with Pittsburgh.
