Sources tell TSN that an independent medical evaluation has determined that Alexander Mogilny's chronic hip condition makes him physically unfit to play and that when the Devils file their roster with the league Tuesday, they will be able to designate Mogilny as a Long-Term Injury [letting the Devils ignore his $3.5 mil salary]

Sort of sad to see a career that had such amazing flashes of brilliance (Buffalo 92/93 for example) end like this.

as a die-hard sabres fan, i've had a soft spot for mogilny since forever. i remember he used to bus to the games because he was afraid to fly, and then he played so smooth. this reminds me of another sabre, but one in the end of his career - la la lafontaine, who had his career stopped short because of injuries to his head. this is sad news.
